New Year, New CV?

It’s the New Year, and you’ve decided you want a new job but do you need a new CV first? Here are our top 5 tips for improving your CV to secure your dream job this year!

1. Start your CV with a short paragraph that is really going to sell you. This is your opportunity to let the employer/agency know why they should pick you over all the other applicants. We’d suggest including skills relevant to the job you’re applying for, a strength and a career objective. Keep it short though, say¬†40 words otherwise you’ll lose the impact!

2. If you have not had much experience in the industry in which you are applying for work, remember to include any relevant voluntary work experience. It shows extra experience in your chosen field and also demonstrates a good work ethic.

3.Remember to include all your contact details. Sounds obvious but you would not believe the amount of CV’s we come across without the address or telephone number on.

4. Get someone to proof read your CV before sending it out. They may pick up on small mistakes that you haven’t seen, or suggest something you have missed. And always spell check it! Remember you want to make a good first impression.

5. Keep your CV to 2 pages maximum. The reader will lose interest if it is much longer and doing this really puts the focus on the quality of your content.
